The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is currently hosting a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop aimed at strengthening capacity in seed production, soil health management, and the use of digital solutions in agriculture.
The workshop is being conducted in partnership with the Global Center on Adaptation as part of efforts to support the implementation of Phase 2 of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) programme in Anambra State, Ekiti State and Niger State.
- IITA, UN strengthen partnership to accelerate food security, agricultural transformation in Nigeria
- Digital innovation positions carbon farming as Africa’s climate opportunity
The initiative is designed to strengthen food security, improve livelihoods and create employment opportunities for Nigerians by building the capacity of trainers who will subsequently support farmers and other actors across the agricultural value chain.
Participants drawn from the three beneficiary states are currently engaged in intensive and interactive learning sessions that combine lectures, practical demonstrations, facility visits, evaluations, question-and-answer sessions and group discussions.
According to the organisers, the training aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and technical skills required to enhance seed systems, promote healthy soils and leverage digital tools that can support climate-smart and resilient agricultural practices.
By empowering trainers with up-to-date knowledge and practical experience, the programme is expected to accelerate agricultural transformation in the participating states and support the broader objectives of Nigeria’s agro-industrial development agenda.
The SAPZ programme is a major initiative designed to stimulate agricultural productivity, attract private sector investment and promote value addition through the development of agro-industrial hubs across the country.
