Jigawa agricultural model reflects Tinubu’s food security vision – Minister

The Federal Government has described Jigawa State as a model of agricultural transformation and good governance, noting that its achievements in dry-season farming and agricultural productivity align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for food security and rural development.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this during a courtesy visit to Governor Malam Umar Namadi at the Government House, Dutse, on Tuesday.

The visit formed part of activities marking the North-West APC Youth Parley.

Idris, who was accompanied by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmed, commended the state’s impressive record in agricultural reform and rural development.

“About a year and a half ago, I led a federal communications team to Jigawa to study what was happening, especially in the agriculture sector. We didn’t just stop at courtesy visits; we went to the farms to see firsthand how dry-season agriculture was being practiced,” the minister said.

He described Jigawa’s success in agricultural innovation and resource management as a model for the rest of the country, adding that it provides a glimpse into what the federal government’s renewed push for food security can achieve.

“What I saw in Jigawa became, for me, an example—a model of what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural revolution can deliver for this country,” Idris stated.

The minister lauded the discipline, order, and purpose that underpin Jigawa’s governance structure, noting that such systems ensure policies in the agricultural sector translate into tangible benefits for farmers and rural communities.

In his remarks, Governor Namadi reiterated that agriculture remains a top priority in Jigawa’s 12-point development agenda, emphasizing that the state is committed to driving self-sufficiency through irrigation, mechanization, and value-chain development.

“Agriculture is central to our development plan,” the governor said. “We are investing in modern irrigation, empowering youth and women in agri-business, and expanding access to inputs and credit to strengthen our production systems.”
