Federal College of Agriculture begins full operation in Jigawa

    – As Governor Namadi pledges full support

The newly established Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma, has commenced operations with a firm pledge of support from the Jigawa State Government, following a courtesy visit by the institution’s pioneer management team to Governor Malam Umar Namadi at Government House, Dutse.
Receiving the delegation led by the Provost, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram, Governor Namadi described the establishment of the college as a significant milestone for agricultural development in Jigawa, noting that setting up a new institution “is both historic and demanding.”
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mallam Hamisu Gumel, he expressed confidence in the capacity of the management team to lay a strong foundation for the college’s growth.
“Establishing a new institution is not an effortless task. You are now part of history. I am confident, given the calibre of your team, that the college is starting on the right footing,” he said.
Governor Namadi also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bill establishing the college, alongside the Federal College of Education, Birnin Kudu. He revealed that Jigawa is already positioning itself to secure a third federal institution, following discussions with the President.
“We are working on securing another federal institution for Jigawa, and Insha’Allah, it will come to fruition.”
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to support the smooth takeoff of the college, adding that Jigawa is fortunate to have Dr. Gwaram—a seasoned agriculturist and administrator—leading the new institution.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Education, Hon. Fulata of the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency, and the Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education for championing the project.
Earlier, Provost Dr. Gwaram said the college was designed to serve as a specialized hub for modern agricultural education, farmer training, and the promotion of innovative practices that can strengthen rural livelihoods.
“This college will teach modern agricultural techniques, educate farmers, and attract relevant agencies to Jigawa,” he said.
The Provost added that the management is already in discussions with regulatory bodies, including NBTE, to ensure full compliance with takeoff requirements.
The establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture, Kirikasamma, is expected to boost human capital development, promote climate-smart agriculture, and expand economic opportunities for farming communities across Jigawa State.
