The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) has commenced the distribution of dust bins to commercial tricycle (Adaidaita Sahu) operators across Kano State as part of a strategic move to enhance environmental sanitation and safeguard public health.
The initiative, which targets indiscriminate disposal of refuse along major roads and public spaces, was officially flagged off at the REMASAB Headquarters in Kano.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Kano State Government to promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for residents.
He explained that the distribution of the dust bins forms part of a broader waste management strategy aimed at ensuring proper refuse collection, especially among commercial transport operators who play a vital role in daily urban mobility.
Dr. Khalil disclosed that REMASAB would work closely with tricycle operators’ unions and the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to ensure compliance and sustain the gains of the initiative.
According to him, additional waste bins have been strategically positioned along major roads across the metropolis to enable tricycle operators to conveniently dispose of waste whenever their onboard bins are full. He expressed confidence that the intervention would significantly reduce littering and improve the quality of life of Kano residents.
The dust bins, he added, would be handed over to various Adaidaita Sahu associations for onward distribution to their members, a move expected to encourage responsible waste disposal practices and foster a culture of environmental responsibility among operators.
In his remarks, the Deputy Managing Director of KAROTA, Shu’aibu Lawal Aranposu, announced a two-week grace period for tricycle operators to acquire and begin using the dust bins, warning that enforcement would commence immediately after the expiration of the grace period.
“Our goal is to create a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents of Kano State. We will ensure strict compliance and proper utilization of these waste bins to reduce refuse on our streets,” Aranposu stated.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Tricycle Operators’ Voice Association (VOTORA), Nazifi B. K. Gidan Kudi, commended REMASAB for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
He assured the Board of the association’s full cooperation and pledged total compliance among its members.
