Taraba commissions AI-powered animal health centre

The Taraba State Government has inaugurated a modern Animal Health Centre in Jalingo, designed to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) technology in improving livestock services.

The facility, which cost over one billion naira, features a section for animal healthcare equipped with tools to support artificial insemination for cattle, goats and other livestock.

It also houses a solar-powered laboratory for diagnosing animal diseases and a pharmacy to serve farmers and veterinary practitioners.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Oliver, described the project as a milestone in the state’s drive to transform the livestock sector.

“This initiative reflects the Taraba State Government’s commitment to modernising livestock production through technology, with the aim of improving community welfare and sustainability,” he said.

Oliver explained that the centre is equipped with devices capable of monitoring animal health, dispensing food and water, and regulating temperature conditions required for livestock.

He added that the facility would also support the provision of nutritious feed for animals and enhance productivity among agricultural workers.

The commissioner noted that the government’s investment in the project underscores its determination to strengthen livestock activities and position Taraba as a hub for modern animal healthcare in Nigeria.
