NiMet predicts dust haze in north, thunderstorms in south Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast moderate to slight dust haze across parts of the North and thunderstorms in some southern states on Friday, January 30, 2026.

In its Daily Weather Outlook released Thursday via its X handle, NiMet said moderate dust haze with visibility of between two and five kilometres is expected in parts of Yobe, Katsina, northern Bauchi, Kano and Jigawa during the morning hours.

It added that other northern states would experience slight dust haze in the morning, which is expected to persist through the afternoon and evening.

For the North Central states, NiMet predicted slight dust haze throughout the day.

In the South, the agency forecast sunny skies with patches of cloud in the morning, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers. Other southern states are expected to remain largely sunny with few clouds.

NiMet warned that the dust haze could reduce visibility, especially in the early morning hours, and advised people with respiratory ailments to take necessary precautions. Motorists were also urged to exercise caution while driving under hazy conditions.

The agency further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information to aid effective planning.
