    CDA, e-Health Africa Explore Geospatial Training Programme for Public Health Professionals

    The Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University, Kano, on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, held an interactive session with e-Health Africa to fine-tune a proposed geospatial training curriculum for public health professionals, aimed at addressing a critical skills gap in the sector.

    The meeting, which focused on the structure and content of the programme, was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Amina Mustapha, underscoring the University’s support for capacity-building initiatives that bridge academia and industry.

    Welcoming the e-Health Africa delegation, the Director of CDA, Professor Sanusi Gaya Mohammed, noted that the partnership between CDA and e-Health Africa dates back to 2014. He highlighted the Centre’s strong expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), adding that CDA boasts one of the best-equipped geospatial laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities in the region.

    Speaking on behalf of e-Health Africa, the Associate Manager, GIS/Data Analytics, Mr Victor Idakwo, explained that the proposed curriculum is designed to train public health professionals at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. He added that a key objective of the initiative is to institutionalise the programme at CDA, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

    Discussions also covered practical aspects of the programme, including training duration and fees, with CDA, e-Health Africa explore geospatial training for public health professionals

    The Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University, Kano, has initiated discussions with e-Health Africa on the development of a geospatial training programme for public health professionals to address critical skills gaps in the sector.

    At an interactive session held on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, both institutions deliberated on the structure and content of the proposed curriculum, aimed at strengthening the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analytics in public health practice.

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Amina Mustapha, attended the meeting, signaling the University’s commitment to partnerships that promote capacity building and strengthen the link between academia and industry.

    Welcoming the e-Health Africa delegation, the Director of CDA, Professor Sanusi Gaya Mohammed, said the collaboration between the two organisations dates back to 2014. He noted that the Centre has developed strong expertise in GIS and operates one of the best-equipped geospatial laboratories in the region.

    Speaking for e-Health Africa, the Associate Manager, GIS/Data Analytics, Mr Victor Idakwo, said the proposed programme is structured to provide training at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. He added that the initiative seeks to institutionalise the training at CDA to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

    Discussions also covered practical considerations such as the duration of the training and programme fees, with both parties agreeing to continue consultations before finalising arrangements.

    Other participants at the meeting included the Director of Academic Planning, Professor Yusuf Garba; Deputy Director, Training, Professor Murtala Mohammed Badamasi; Geospatial Analyst, Dr Murtala Uba; Deputy Director, Outreach and Partnership, Dr Amina Lawan Mustapha; Communication Officer, Nura Garba; Personal Secretary to the Director, Aliyu Sani Zubairu; CDA ICT Officer, Adams Mustapha; Mohammed Ahmed of the Department of Geography; and other staff of e-Health Africa.
