The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) has convened a Pre-2026 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) Stakeholders’ Meeting to strengthen national preparedness and improve flood risk mitigation across the country.

The meeting drew representatives from federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), humanitarian organisations, and development partners to foster collaboration and encourage proactive responses to anticipated flood risks.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General/CEO of NiHSA, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, said the session was aimed at reviewing the 2025 flood forecast and presenting key highlights of the 2026 AFO. He stressed the importance of stakeholder feedback in enhancing the accuracy of flood predictions and building national resilience against disasters.

Officials at the meeting presented highlights of the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook, while David Tuna, Head of GIS at the agency, demonstrated NiHSA’s Flood Intelligence Monitoring System to participants.

NiHSA reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable and timely flood forecasts and to coordinating with partners to reduce the impact of flooding in Nigeria.
