Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, in line with the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to reposition the agricultural sector for food security and economic diversification.
The ministry is expected to provide special focus on livestock production, management, and value-chain devdevelopment.

In the same vein, the Governor has appointed Associate Professor Aliyu Isah Aliyu as the pioneer Commissioner to oversee the affairs of the new ministry.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move, considering his academic and professional background, which is expected to bring both expertise and innovation into the livestock sector.
The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development marks a significant step in tackling challenges facing the sector, including low productivity, poor infrastructure, and lack of access to markets.
By dedicating a full-fledged ministry, the state government aims to attract investment, encourage modern ranching practices, and reduce the recurring farmer-herder conflicts.
Speaking on the development, Governor Yusuf explained that the ministry will collaborate closely with the Federal Government and relevant agencies to roll out policies that will enhance milk and meat production, improve animal health, and create jobs for thousands of youths in rural communities.
Observers believe that Kano, being one of the largest livestock markets in West Africa, stands to gain immensely from this development. With proper coordination, the new ministry could position the state as a leading hub for livestock business, not just in Nigeria but across the region, thereby boosting revenue generation and economic growth.
