Kano Govt Introduces Watering Motorcycles to Sustain Street Trees

The Kano State Government has introduced modern motorcycles equipped with water tanks to ensure regular watering of trees planted along major streets across the metropolis.

The initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to beautify urban roads and promote a healthy environment.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the motorcycles are specially designed to make tree watering easier and prevent equipment damage during use.

According to the Commissioner, the Ministry has been receiving complaints from residents about the destruction of trees and cases of animals feeding on the newly planted ones.

“Following several complaints from members of the public, we conducted an on-the-spot assessment of some of the roads where tree planting and beautification activities are ongoing. We evaluated the condition of the trees and took necessary measures to ensure their healthy growth,” Dr. Hashim said.

He assured residents that the state government would not allow the trees to die due to lack of water, diseases, or destruction by animals or humans.

“At the moment, His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has provided modern irrigation motorcycles that will be used for watering trees across the state. We are also putting in place protective measures to sustain this important environmental initiative and ensure a greener and healthier Kano,” the Commissioner added.

Dr. Hashim further appealed to residents to continue supporting the Ministry’s environmental drive by reporting challenges and avoiding any actions that could damage or undermine the state’s urban greening programme.
