    KSADP Completes 3-Month Training of Kano Veterinarians on Animal Insemination

    Kano State Agro-pastoral Development Project, KSADP has concluded a three-month training on animal insemination for 10 staff of the Kano State Ministry of Livestock.

    The training is part of the livestock training and coaching activities of the project, which is funded by the Islamic Development Bank, the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, LLF and the government of Kano state.

    A statement by the Communication Specialist of the project, Ameen Kabeer Yassar said the training of the veterinarians, which was conducted at Kadawa Animal Insemination Center, Garun Mallam Local government, is expected to have positive impacts on animal well-being and performance, thus increasing the overall farm profitability.

    According to the project Livestock Specialist, Dr. Garba Sale, “the Training of livestock officers in artificial insemination (AI) is essential for improving animal breeding outcomes, maximizing herd productivity, and promoting sustainable and efficient cattle farming”.

    Dr. Garba stated that the trainees were exposed to reproductive anatomy and physiology,semen collection, evaluation, storage, insemination procedure, feeding, sanitation, equipment handling and animal health, among others

    He recalled that the KSADP renovated the Kadawa Animal Insemination Center, provided it the modern equipment and restocked it with five exotic bulls, to promote best practices in Animal Insemination.

    “We focused on AI because its benefits in cattle breeding are diverse and impactful. For instance, we need to improve the quantity and quality of meat we are producing in this part of the country, to enhance food security, in addition to boosting the income of our pastoralists and farmers”.

    The round-off training, the participants were taken on an excursion to the National Animal Production Research Institute, NAPRI, Zaria, which focuses on research in animal production and development and the Arla-Dano dairy farm in Kaduna state.
