KNARDA-KSADP trains 88 women extension workers on legume processing for nutrition, income generation

The Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) in collaboration with the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), has successfully conducted a specialized training for 88 Women Subject Matter Specialists from the Women in Agriculture (WIA) Unit on legume crop processing and utilization for improved family nutrition and income generation.

The training, which was conducted by Umaira Agric Ventures, took place on October 20, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammad Library, Kano.

In his welcome remarks, the Director of Extension Services, Malam Aminu Ibrahim, stated that two participants were selected from each of the 44 local government areas of Kano State. These women will carry out step-down trainings in their communities for rural women farmers.

He added that some of the trained participants will be selected to receive starter packs and financial support to begin small-scale processing businesses.

He urged them to ensure proper hygiene in both personal and environmental practices, and to approach the training with sincerity and commitment so that women and children can benefit nutritionally and economically.

Speaking during the program, Desk Officer Malam Muhammad Shitu Yahaya encouraged the participants to leave a legacy through their performance. He called on them to be just and fair in the selection of rural beneficiaries, emphasizing that the success of the training depends on the impact it creates in the lives of others.

The State Project Coordinator of KSADP, Malam Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, congratulated KNARDA for organizing such a timely intervention. He expressed delight at seeing only women extension workers participating, describing them as a strong human asset within the KNARDA workforce.

He noted that the dedication and excellence shown by the women in previous KSADP programs had brought recognition and credibility to the project, especially among donors like the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and ISFD. He emphasized that without KSADP, such empowerment opportunities might not have reached this level for both the extension workers and KNARDA as an institution.

The Managing Director of KNARDA, who was represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Hajiya Bilkisu Ibrahim Kalil, echoed earlier comments and stressed the importance of personal and environmental hygiene. She highlighted the government’s investment in empowering women with self-reliance skills, urging transparency and fairness in the process of selecting beneficiaries for support.

She concluded by expressing gratitude to IsDB LLF for funding and supporting the initiative
