    By Adam Said Adam

The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has intensified efforts to increase women’s participation in agriculture with the unveiling of a Women in Agriculture Training Centre in Kano.

Agro Climate News reports that the facility is designed to train individuals particularly young women in various aspects of food preparation and processing.

It will also serve as a practical learning hub for students, especially those participating in SIWES and NYSC programmes, providing them with hands-on experience under KNARDA’s training initiatives.

State Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, disclosed this during the inauguration of the centre, noting that the initiative is aimed at empowering more women to actively engage in agricultural activities across the state.

He said the establishment of the centre would serve as a platform to enhance women’s involvement in farming and related ventures, thereby improving livelihoods and boosting food production.

The coordinator added that the project has recorded significant achievements, particularly in the areas of nutrition and food security, through various support programmes targeting rural communities.

He further explained that the project, in collaboration with Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, would train women on food processing and preparation techniques to promote better nutrition and value addition.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of KNARDA, Faruk Kurawa, said the new centre would complement the authority’s activities in improving agricultural productivity in the state.

Kurawa revealed that the agency recently recruited over 1,000 staff to enhance efficiency and service delivery in the agricultural sector.

“This centre will greatly support the people of Kano State by improving access to nutritious food and enhancing overall public health,” he said, adding that the facility has been fully equipped with modern tools and resources.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of Women in Agriculture, Hauwa Muhammad Adam, commended KSADP for providing women with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development in Kano State.

“We sincerely appreciate all those who contributed to making this project a reality. This centre will play a vital role in empowering women with practical food processing skills,” she said.
