Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has received agricultural mechanization equipment worth N40 million to enhance hands-on training for students and promote modern agribusiness practices.
The equipment, donated by the Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN), was handed over through the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) and the Faculty of Agriculture under the SIBLING Initiative (Skills Improvement to Boost Livelihood and Nurture Growth).

The intervention is aimed at bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical farming, equipping students with skills to become agripreneurs, create jobs, and contribute to food security.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on July 18, 2026, WOFAN’s Group Executive Board Chair, Dr. Salamatu Garba, said the donation was designed to prepare students for real-world agricultural business.
She stressed that practical exposure to modern tools is essential for success in today’s agricultural sector.
“We are sending this with love and respect so you can build practical knowledge and become dignified agripreneurs and employers of labour,” she said.
The equipment includes a 40-horsepower tractor with ploughing, harrowing and ridging implements, power tillers, fertilizer applicators, tricycle carriers, solar-powered sprayers with protective kits, as well as rice and maize processing machines.
Dr. Garba added that beyond training, the machines could serve as a source of income for students by providing mechanization services to surrounding farming communities.
The donation follows an earlier support of N28 million worth of agricultural inputs provided by WOFAN to kick-start the 2026 wet season farming under the SIBLING project.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Academic), Prof. Amina Mustapha, commended WOFAN for the support, noting that it aligns with the university’s goal of producing graduates who are self-reliant and entrepreneurial.
She assured that the equipment would be properly maintained and effectively utilized.
Also speaking, Chairman of WOFAN’s Technical Board of Advisers, Prof. Sani Miko, urged students to take full advantage of the opportunity and remain committed to the programme.
On behalf of the students, the President of the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), BUK Chapter, Umar Kabir Bello, expressed appreciation to WOFAN, CDA, and the university management.
He said the intervention would significantly improve practical learning and expose students to modern agricultural technologies.
The SIBLING Initiative continues to stand out as a strong model of collaboration between academia and development partners, promoting innovation, skills development, and sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.
