Kaduna unveils N74bn plan to revolutionize Agriculture

The Kaduna State Government has rolled out a bold N74 billion agricultural transformation agenda aimed at turning the state into Nigeria’s top food production hub while tackling food insecurity and strengthening rural livelihoods.

At a quarterly ministerial briefing held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, outlined the ambitious strategy championed by Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

“Key highlights include the distribution of over 500 trucks of fertilizer and 100,000 free bags to farmers, alongside improved maize seeds and agrochemicals under the Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) programme.

“To accelerate mechanization, Kaduna has acquired 500 power tillers, 10,000 solar-powered water pumps, and multiple tractors to be deployed through public-private mechanization hubs statewide.”

An additional N200 million has been committed to rehabilitating vital irrigation systems, while the state is also positioning itself to join the World Bank’s $500 million Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SPIN) project—further unlocking investment and value-chain growth.

Dabo also noted that 16 rural roads have been rehabilitated under the RAAMP scheme, dramatically improving farmers’ access to markets.

The initiative marks a significant step toward transforming Kaduna’s agricultural landscape and empowering thousands of farmers with the tools, inputs, and infrastructure needed to thrive.
