The Katsina State Government has officially launched a dedicated Farmers’ Radio Station aimed at strengthening agricultural communication, extension services, and knowledge sharing among smallholder farmers across the state.
The initiative, championed by the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is designed to bridge the information gap between farmers and experts by providing timely updates on production management, pest control, market trends, and government support programmes.

Speaking during the launch ceremony in Katsina, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ahmed Bakori, said the Farmers’ Radio Station would serve as a critical platform for enhancing agricultural productivity and rural development.
“This radio station is established to complement our existing extension services and the Katsina Sustainable Platform for Agriculture (KASPA). It will enable farmers to get real-time information, seek expert advice, and improve their management practices,” Dr. Bakori stated.
He explained that the station will feature interactive segments where farmers can directly engage agricultural experts, ask questions, and receive guidance in local languages, thereby ensuring inclusiveness and accessibility.
The commissioning of the Farmers’ Radio Station coincided with the visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima to the state, who inaugurated several other development projects targeted at supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and boosting local productivity.
Dr. Bakori added that the state government is also establishing e-centres across local government areas to complement the radio initiative, ensuring that farmers can access information and technical support digitally.
The Katsina Farmers’ Radio Station is expected to become a vital tool in transforming agricultural communication, improving yield outcomes, and empowering rural communities to adapt better to changing climate and market realities.
