The Kebbi State Government has announced that the 2026 edition of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival will hold from February 11 to 14.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Strategy and Communication, Abdullahi Zuru, the government said preparations have been intensified to ensure the festival is not only a cultural showcase but also a platform for economic growth and investment.

The statement quoted the Director-General of the Kebbi State Investment Promotion Agency, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Kamba, as saying that foreign investors from Europe and Asia have already indicated interest in attending the festival, following Governor Idris’ recent overseas engagements.
“We are expecting a large turnout of investors who are keen to explore the state’s abundant natural resources and forge partnerships with the government and people of Kebbi State,” Dr. Kamba said.
To accommodate the expected influx of visitors, the agency is working with hotel owners to upgrade their facilities to international standards.
The festival, which will feature fishing competitions, cultural displays, exhibitions of agricultural produce, livestock, and solid minerals, will also host a consultative forum bringing together investors, government institutions, and the local business community.
The statement further noted that Governor Idris has demonstrated commitment to improving Kebbi’s socio-economic prospects, citing his assent to a law authorising the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy for residential, commercial, and industrial plots across the state.
The Festival Organising Committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, is coordinating preparations to ensure the success of the event.
The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, which had been suspended for several years, was revived under Governor Idris. This year’s edition is expected to be the most impactful yet, with additional initiatives aimed at job creation and wealth generation for the people of Kebbi State.
