The Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation has launched a statewide capacity-building programme to help farmers adapt to climate change and improve agricultural productivity.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Patrick Nwabueze Uburu, said the initiative is aimed at equipping farmers with knowledge of weather patterns to enhance decision-making in rural communities.

The programme includes a three-day “train-the-trainer” workshop focused on simplifying the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction for practical use.
The workshop, held in collaboration with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, is designed to translate climate forecasts into actionable insights that farmers can apply directly to their activities.
Uburu noted that the initiative aligns with the agricultural transformation agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to strengthening the sector through knowledge-driven approaches.
He added that a similar programme conducted in 2025 produced encouraging results, with farmers gaining a better understanding of rainfall patterns and making more informed planting decisions, including avoiding early planting based on the first rainfall.
