The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), said plans were underway to equip rice clusters with modern rice milling equipment to improve production of quality products.
The Kano Manager of the Agency, Bashir Ja’afar-Aminu, made this known on Wednesday, during a training organised for Kura Rice Clusters in Kano.

The training has the theme: “Enhancing Clusters Competitiveness for Prosperity”.
Ja’afar-Aminu said the intervention became necessary to move the rice clusters from use of old machines to modern rice milling machines.
“We are going to support them with modern rice milling machines. Because we realised that they have old machines.
“So, the support is meant to shift them from old machines to the modern system or machines.
“You know we are facing this energy crisis. We will also factor in solar based energy.”
A member from the Kura rice cluster, Dr Abdulrashid Ibrahim-Baba commended the organisers for the training.
He said the training was to sensitise the clusters on how to register, market and process their products.
He stressed the need for collaboration and partnership among the clusters to ensure prosperous businesses.
