Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the distribution of about 150 truckloads of subsidised fertilizer to farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state, as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and ensure food security.
The Governor also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution process to guarantee transparency and accountability.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Yusuf said the initiative underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector in Kano State.
He explained that the intervention is aimed at easing the burden of rising farming costs, increasing crop yields, and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
According to him, the involvement of anti-graft agencies is to ensure that the subsidised fertilizer reaches genuine farmers and to eliminate diversion, hoarding, and other sharp practices.

Governor Yusuf charged the 44 local government chairmen to ensure strict, transparent, and equitable distribution of the fertilizer, warning that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of denying deserving farmers access to the intervention.
He further warned that anyone found diverting the fertilizer or frustrating the programme would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Governor reiterated that his administration would continue to invest in agriculture through policies and programmes that promote food sufficiency, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth, describing agriculture as a key driver of Kano State’s economy.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
