    Windstorm destroys 100 houses in Jigawa

    A windstorm accompanied by a downpour has devastated Kaugama LGA of Jigawa State, resulting in the collapse of over 100 houses and the loss of other properties worth millions of naira.

    The incident is coming at the early stage of this year’s raining season which was welcomed with predictions of flood, especially among the river areas across the country.

    Agro Climate News reports that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had issues several warning for communities in the flood prone areas to vacate their place.

    Speaking on their orderls, Musa Kaugama, a victim, described how his two-room house was flattened, leaving him with nothing but a few salvaged items.

    Ali Haruna Kaugama recounted how the wind tore off the roof of his three-room house, causing extensive damage to his property.

    Garba Musa Yalo Kaugama shared a similar plight, stating that his two-room house was destroyed, leaving his family destitute.

    “The cost of food and basic necessities has skyrocketed, making life unbearable,” he added.

    Dr Haruna Mairiga, Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), disclosed that a response team had been dispatched to assess the extent of the damage and provide relief to the affected families.

    “We are committed to supporting the victims during this difficult time,” he assured.
