Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed admiration for the ongoing tree-planting initiatives being carried out across Kano metropolis, describing the city’s gradual transformation into a greener and more environmentally friendly space as commendable.

Ahmad, who served as Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, made the remarks in a post on his official social media page.

He praised the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, under the leadership of Commissioner Dahir M. Hashim, for championing tree-planting exercises and other climate-conscious programmes aimed at restoring the state’s environmental balance.

He further advised the state to channel its efforts in providing public gardens across the state.

“I truly love how my dear state, Kano, is becoming a greener and cleaner city. Thanks to the commendable efforts of the State Ministry of Environment under Commissioner Dahir M. Hashim, for planting trees across strategic areas within the metropolis.

“We now look forward to seeing the next phase — the development of new public gardens and recreational spaces for families and residents to enjoy,” Ahmad wrote.

In recent months, the Ministry of Environment has intensified efforts to promote environmental sustainability across the state. The Commissioner, Dahir M. Hashim, has led several campaigns against illegal tree felling while distributing thousands of tree seedlings to communities, schools, and public institutions to encourage afforestation.

The Ministry has also been developing a comprehensive climate change policy for Kano State, aimed at integrating climate resilience into urban planning, waste management, and agricultural practices.

Environmental observers note that these initiatives are gradually transforming Kano into one of the leading states in Northern Nigeria taking concrete action against climate change.
