Jigawa, Indian firm partner to boost poultry value chain

The Jigawa State Government has moved to strengthen its poultry sector through a strategic partnership with Srinivasa Farms Pvt. Ltd., in a bid to enhance food security, create jobs, and grow rural incomes.

Governor Umar Namadi received a high-level delegation from the Indian firm at the Government House in Dutse, marking a follow-up to the state’s 2025 investment mission to India.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, said the delegation is currently conducting a technical assessment across Kazaure, Gumel, Hadejia, and Dutse, evaluating poultry infrastructure and exploring opportunities for investment, including the establishment of a modern hatchery and feed mill.

Namadi described the engagement as a major step toward building a sustainable poultry value chain, noting it would boost internally generated revenue, generate youth employment, and improve livelihoods.

“This collaboration will enhance productivity and increase farmers’ incomes,” the governor said, reaffirming the state’s commitment to private sector-driven agricultural transformation.

Vice President of Srinivasa Farms, Senthil Kumar Krishnan, said Jigawa offers strong potential due to similarities with India’s poultry production environments. He noted the partnership would support farmers with access to quality chicks, affordable feed, veterinary services, and market linkages.

The initiative is also expected to introduce modern poultry practices, improve biosecurity, and ensure a steady supply of eggs and poultry meat across the state.
