The Kano State government is seeking support from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the second phase of the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), citing the project’s achievements and impact on poverty alleviation.
According to the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmood, the second phase will include components of agriculture not captured in the first phase, which was jointly financed by the state government, the IsDB, and the Lives and Livelihood Funds (LLF).

Dr. Mahmood praised the project’s achievements, particularly in improving access to sustainable livelihoods and reducing poverty. “The impact is so deep, so huge. For instance, the project gives a woman a few goats, and within a year or less, the number of goats triples. This has real impact in rural homes.”
The commissioner assured that the state government will continue to work with the IsDB and LLF to ensure Kano benefits from development initiatives.
A mission from the IsDB and the Federal Ministry of Finance, led by Daniyar Abylkhan, visited Kano to discuss the project’s utilization of savings, exit strategy, and counterpart funding.
Abylkhan praised the project’s success, noting that it has become a model for other states in Nigeria. “Some states want the Islamic Development Bank to literally copy and paste the project in their states.”
The KSADP has achieved significant milestones in the past five years, including improving agricultural productivity and enhancing livelihoods for rural communities.
