In a significant boost to commercial agriculture in Nigeria, the Dangote Group and the Niger State Government have announced a multi-billion naira partnership to develop the state’s agricultural sector.
The partnership, which is part of the Niger Food initiative, aims to enhance food security, generate employment opportunities, and promote local rice production in the state.

Speaking at the 2025 Niger National Trade Fair, Fatima Wali Abdurrahman, Senior Special Adviser to the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, said the company is committed to advancing agriculture in Nigeria.
“As part of our commitment, we plan to establish one of the largest rice mills in Niger State,” she said. “This landmark project represents a significant step forward in bolstering the food security initiatives of the state.”
The Dangote Group is investing heavily in the project, which includes the construction of a 32 Metric Tonnes Per Hour (MTPH) rice mill, 32 silos with a storage capacity of 2,500 metric tons of paddy rice, and a captive power generation facility.
The project is expected to generate employment opportunities, support local farmers with necessary inputs, and contribute substantially to the state’s food security goals.
Niger State Governor, Umar Muhammed Bago, commended the Dangote Group for its investment in the state’s agricultural sector and urged the company to take advantage of the state’s conducive environment and investment opportunities.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sabi Abdullahi, represented by Dr. Suleiman Ladan, said commercial agriculture is central to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu economic development agenda.
