The federal government has taken a significant step toward strengthening security operations and reducing fuel costs by donating three Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The vehicles were handed over on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja through a collaboration between the Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV).

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation for what he described as a forward-looking initiative by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He noted that the transition to gas-powered and electric vehicles represents a critical step toward modernizing policing in Nigeria and aligning operations with global best practices.
“These vehicles will enhance the welfare of officers and improve mobility in the discharge of their duties,” the IGP said.
He also revealed that the police force plans to establish in-house conversion centres to maintain and retrofit vehicles for CNG use, ensuring sustainability of the initiative.
Officials from both implementing bodies, led by the Secretary of the Police Trust Fund, Mohammad Sheidu, and the head of PI-CNG & EV, Ismail Ahmed, described the donation as just the beginning of a broader reform.
According to them, the federal government aims to convert the entire operational fleet of the police to CNG-powered vehicles, a move expected to cut fuel expenditure by over 50 percent.
The event was attended by senior officials, including CP Tony Emafale and Alhaji Sanusi Aliyu, alongside representatives of the presidential CNG committee.
