Kano bans dumping of sand, building materials on road

The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) has announced a ban on the dumping of sand, stones, blocks, or soil on roads across Kano metropolis and its environs.

The Managing Director of the agency, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil, who disclosed the ban, stated that the measure is part of the government’s efforts to ensure environmental cleanliness and prevent the obstruction of roads and drainage channels.

According to the statement, any contractor, house builder, or shop owner who needs to offload such materials must make arrangements for workers to evacuate them immediately after offloading, in order to avoid traffic congestion, danger to motorists, and environmental pollution.

The agency warned that anyone found violating this directive by dumping building materials on roads without taking prompt steps to remove them will face legal sanctions.

REMASAB added that it will collaborate with the Tafida Gidanka Court to prosecute offenders, noting that penalties may include fines, imprisonment, or both, depending on the gravity of the offence.

The Board called on members of the public to comply with the directive in order to ensure environmental cleanliness and ease the movement of vehicles within Kano metropolis.
