The Global Environmental and Climate Conservation Initiative (GECCI) has strengthened its partnership with the Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Save the Children International (SCI) Nigeria to promote climate-resilient health systems in the state.
The collaboration was reinforced during a high-level meeting in Bauchi, where stakeholders discussed practical ways to address the growing impact of climate change on public health.
The meeting focused on integrating climate resilience into health planning, improving community adaptation, and strengthening the capacity of health systems to respond to climate-related challenges.
Participants emphasized that climate change continues to affect vulnerable groups—especially women and children—highlighting the need for coordinated efforts in disease prevention, environmental sustainability, and healthcare delivery.
Speaking after the meeting, GECCI Chief Executive Officer, Abdulhamid Tahir Hamid, said strong partnerships are essential in tackling climate-related health risks.
“Climate change is not only an environmental issue but also a public health concern. We must work together to build resilient health systems that can protect vulnerable communities,” he said.
GECCI noted that its work spans climate adaptation, environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and community resilience across Nigeria and beyond.
The organisation said it has implemented hundreds of climate and environmental projects aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening local capacity to cope with environmental challenges.
The meeting ended with a commitment by all partners to deepen collaboration and develop practical, evidence-based solutions to improve health outcomes and community resilience.
The partnership is expected to support ongoing efforts to build a more climate-resilient and sustainable healthcare system in Bauchi State and Nigeria at large.
