SAPZ Trains Stakeholders on Tree Planting to Boost Climate Resilience in Kano

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme in Kano State has trained key stakeholders on tree establishment and management as part of efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture and environmental sustainability.

The capacity-building programme, held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Jemys Plaza, Farm Centre in Kano, focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge on tree planting techniques, nursery development, and sustainable land restoration practices.

The training, tagged “Tree Establishment, Management and Planting for Nature-Based Solutions (Phase I),” brought together participants from different sectors to strengthen their understanding of the role trees play in addressing climate change.

Participants were trained on species selection, post-planting care, and how to integrate trees into farming systems to improve soil fertility, conserve biodiversity, and reduce land degradation.

Speaking at the event, the Environmental and Climate Change Officer of the SAPZ Programme KSPIU, Dr. Kabir Ya’u Abdullahi, said nature-based solutions remain one of the most effective and affordable ways to restore degraded ecosystems and improve agricultural productivity.

He urged participants to take the knowledge gained back to their communities by promoting tree planting initiatives that will support a greener and more climate-resilient Kano State.

The programme is part of SAPZ’s broader interventions aimed at strengthening sustainable natural resource management while supporting agro-industrial development across participating local government areas.

SAPZ noted that the Phase I training will be followed by additional phases to further build stakeholders’ capacity and encourage wider adoption of nature-based solutions across the state.
