The Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has sealed off two warehouses in the Sabon Gari area of the state metropolis for violating environmental safety regulations.
Located along Airport Road by France Road, the warehouses were found to be storing insecticides and fumigation materials that emitted a strong, offensive odor, causing significant discomfort to nearby residents and pedestrians.

Malam Ibrahim Nasir, Director of Pollution Control at the ministry, who led the enforcement operation, said the ministry acted after receiving formal complaints from the community.
“We dispatched environmental officers to investigate the matter, and upon confirmation of the odor and the types of chemicals stored, an abatement notice was issued to the shop owners. They were instructed to relocate the materials and stop operations, but they failed to comply,” Nasir said.
He added that due to non-compliance, the ministry had no choice but to seal the premises and escalate the matter to court for legal action.
Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting public health.
“The storage of hazardous substances in a residential or commercial area is not only unlawful but poses a serious health risk to the public,” Dr. Hashim warned. “We will not condone any activity that endangers the lives and well-being of our citizens.”
A statement by Ismail Garba Gwammaja, Director, Public Enlightenment of the ministry, said he also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any environmental infractions to the appropriate authorities. The commissioner also assured that the ministry is working round the clock to create a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment across Kano State.
