The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the National Clean Cooking Policy to expand access to clean cooking energy and cut carbon emissions in line with the country’s net-zero target by 2060.
Speaking at the 2025 Nigeria Clean Cooking Forum in Abuja, Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Lawal, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mallam Mahmud Adam Kambari, said clean cooking is crucial for reducing emissions, fostering entrepreneurship, and improving public heahealthcare.

This year’s theme, “Clean Cooking Energy for All in Nigeria: Scaling-Up Sustainable Access and Adoption,” highlighted the need for innovative financing to make clean fuels and technologies affordable to households.
Ewah Otu Eleri, Executive Director of ICEED and Chairman of the Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cooking, described clean cooking as a human right, stressing that no woman or child should be exposed to deadly smoke from traditional stoves.
Germany’s Ambassador, Annett Günther, and EU representative, Ms. Inga Stefanowicz, reaffirmed their countries’ support for Nigeria’s clean cooking targets, focusing on innovation, gender equity, and environmental impact.
Other speakers, including representatives from GIZ, ALGON, and the Presidential Office on Climate Technology, called for stronger collaboration, carbon finance access, and local government engagement to achieve universal clean cooking access by 2030.
The forum concluded with stakeholders renewing their collective resolve to scale up adoption and ensure every Nigerian household has access to safe, affordable, and sustainable cooking energy.
