The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a 14-year-old boy, Sulaiman Nura Ado, who drowned in an open water body popularly known as “Ruwan Promise” at Rijiyar Zaki area of Kano metropolis.
According to the Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., following an emergency call from a resident, Ghali Isah Muhd.

A Search and Rescue Team from the Fire Service Headquarters, under the command of Director Alhaji Sani Anas, immediately responded and recovered the victim from the water. Sadly, he was found unconscious and later confirmed dead.
The remains of the deceased were handed over to Police Constable Mubarak Ishak of the Rijiyar Zaki Police Division for further investigation and documentation.
The Kano State Fire Service has since appealed to parents and community members to discourage children from swimming or playing around ponds and other open water bodies, stressing that such activities often result in avoidable tragedies.
“We urge parents and guardians to always monitor their children closely and warn them against unsafe swimming in open waters,” the spokesperson said.
