The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Sunday, March 22 to Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja, the agency said the northern region will experience predominantly sunny skies throughout the forecast period.
For the North Central region, NiMet projected sunny conditions with patches of clouds, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms, with or without rain, over parts of Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Kwara states during the day.
Across the southern region, cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are expected. Morning hours may see isolated thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Delta and Cross River states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta states.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts continued sunny skies in the northern region, with possible isolated thunderstorms over parts of southern Taraba State.
The North Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with cloud patches, with chances of light rain over parts of Kogi and Nasarawa in the morning, and moderate rainfall over parts of Benue State later in the day.
In the southern region, morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected over Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, Delta, Lagos, Ogun, Edo and Cross River states, while moderate rainfall is likely later in the day across several states including Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta.
By Tuesday, sunny skies are expected to persist over the northern region. The North Central region will see sunny conditions with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by possible light thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau and Niger states later in the day.
Southern areas will experience cloudy conditions with sunshine intervals, with morning thunderstorms expected over Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Cross River states, and moderate rainfall later in parts of Ondo, Edo, Imo, Bayelsa and Delta states.
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advised the public to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects.
The agency also cautioned against driving during heavy rainfall, advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and avoid sheltering under tall trees due to risk of falling branches.
It added that high temperatures may cause thermal discomfort, urging the public to wear breathable clothing, stay in ventilated environments and remain hydrated.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
NiMet further urged residents to stay updated through its official weather channels.
