The Kano State Government has commenced a training program for livestock health officers on modern vaccination methods and the use of digital devices for data collection, as part of efforts to modernize animal husbandry in the state.
Declaring the training open, the Commissioner for livestock development, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, said the initiative would help the government generate accurate and up-to-date records of livestock farmers and their animals across all 44 local government areas.

Dr. Aliyu explained that the data to be captured will include the farmer’s name, address, total number of animals, details of animals vaccinated and those not vaccinated, as well as reasons for any gaps. He noted that the information will enable the state to design evidence-based policies for livestock development and disease control.
“This is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to transform the livestock sector and align our practices with global best standards,” the Commissioner stated.
He added that proper documentation and vaccination coverage are critical to preventing outbreaks, increasing productivity, and boosting the contribution of livestock to Kano’s economy.
One of the participants, Bashir Garzali El Mahmud, who spoke with Agro Climate News, expressed optimism that the training would improve animal health service delivery.
“I believe this program will help us do our work better, reduce disease outbreaks, and ultimately increase the income of farmers and the state’s revenue,” he said.
Officials say the training will continue in phases to cover more officers across the state.
