The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has handed over 98 milk collection centres to management committees across the 30 local government areas of the state, as part of efforts to improve dairy production, strengthen the livestock value chain and boost the economic wellbeing of Fulani milk producers.
The handover ceremony, organised by KSADP, took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).

Speaking at the event, the KSADP Coordinator, Ibrahim Garba Gama, who was represented by the Project’s Records Officer, Salisu Kaila, said the establishment of the milk collection centres was aimed at creating an organised and reliable system for collecting fresh milk produced by pastoralists across the state.
He explained that the initiative was particularly designed to improve the livelihoods of Fulani men and women engaged in milk production and sales at the individual level.
According to him, the centres would enable milk producers to bring their fresh milk to designated collection points, where yoghurt-producing companies and other buyers could easily purchase the products.
He said the arrangement would not only provide a ready market for fresh milk but also ease the difficulties faced by female and male Fulani milk sellers who traditionally move from place to place to market their products.
Gama, represented by Kaila, stressed that the initiative was part of broader efforts to strengthen the dairy value chain and ensure that milk producers receive better economic returns from their activities.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of KNARDA, Dr. Farouk Ahmad Kurawa, congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to make proper use of the opportunity.
Kurawa described the milk collection centres as an important intervention designed to improve cattle farming and milk production in Kano State, noting that Kano was the only state in Nigeria with such a large-scale network of milk collection centres.
He urged the management committees to take ownership of the facilities, maintain them properly and ensure that they serve the purpose for which they were established.
The KNARDA Managing Director warned that failure to properly maintain and utilise the centres could lead to the facilities being taken back by the Kano State Government.
One of the beneficiaries, Ibrahim Nura Falgore from Doguwa Local Government Area, expressed appreciation to KSADP for the initiative, saying the centre in his area had already started making a positive difference.
Falgore added the facility had significantly eased the business of selling milk, particularly for Fulani women who previously faced difficulties transporting and marketing their products.
He explained that milk producers now take their products to the centre, where they can sell them at reasonable prices to yoghurt companies and individual buyers in a more organised and hygienic manner.
Another beneficiary, Isma’il Bello Yadakwari from Ungogo Local Government Area, described the initiative as a welcome development, saying the beneficiaries had long looked forward to such an opportunity.
Yadakwari assured that the beneficiaries would make proper use of the facility and ensure that it was well maintained for the benefit of milk producers and the wider community.
The handover of the 98 milk collection centres is expected to further strengthen Kano State’s dairy sector, improve access to markets for pastoralist milk producers and create a more efficient link between Fulani milk producers and commercial buyers, particularly yoghurt-processing companies.
