The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) has sustained its crackdown on environmental sanitation offenders, as its Mobile Court prosecuted and sanctioned several business premises and institutions for violating environmental sanitation laws across Kano State.
During the latest enforcement exercise, MRS Filling Station on State Road was convicted for multiple environmental sanitation offences, including overgrown weeds, poor environmental sanitation, indiscriminate waste disposal, accumulation of unwanted materials, lack of standard waste bins, expired fire extinguishers, blocked drainage channels, and rodent infestation.

The court sentenced the establishment to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
The Mobile Court also prosecuted Almu Memorial Hospital on Maiduguri Road for overgrown weeds, littering, accumulation of unwanted materials, lack of waste bins, poor environmental sanitation, cobwebs, and blocked drainage channels. The hospital was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
Similarly, Conoil Filling Station, located on Maiduguri Road, was found guilty of littering, overgrown weeds, poor environmental sanitation, lack of waste bins, cobwebs, accumulation of unwanted materials, water stagnation, indiscriminate waste disposal, and open defecation. The court sentenced the establishment to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
Also convicted was Matrix Filling Station on Zaria Road for littering, overgrown weeds, indiscriminate waste disposal, water stagnation, poor environmental sanitation, blocked drainage channels, and failure to provide adequate waste bins. The court imposed a sentence of two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
The court further sanctioned Dovin Cave Hotel on Zaria Road for littering, accumulation of discarded pipes, water stagnation, and the presence of unwanted materials. The hotel was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
Bayco Guest Hotel, also on Zaria Road, was convicted for littering, indiscriminate dumping of waste materials, cobwebs, and failure to provide standard waste bins. The court sentenced the establishment to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
Meanwhile, Midland Cardiology Clinic, located in Naibawa, was found guilty of littering, overgrown weeds, poor environmental sanitation, cobwebs, indiscriminate waste disposal, dumping of waste, rodent infestation, and blocked drainage channels. The court sentenced the clinic to two weeks’ imprisonment or the option of a fine.
Speaking after the court proceedings, the Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil, reiterated the Board’s commitment to ensuring strict compliance with environmental sanitation laws across Kano State.
He urged residents, corporate organizations, healthcare facilities, hotels, and business owners to maintain clean premises and comply with environmental sanitation regulations, stressing that the Board would continue to enforce the law without fear or favour to safeguard public health and create a cleaner environment for all.
