The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to provide affordable and safer energy alternatives in the transportation sector, with 41 centres already established in Kano State for converting vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
The programme, introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to reduce transportation costs and strengthen energy security through the adoption of cleaner fuel.
During a visit on Sunday to a vehicle conversion equipment warehouse located at No. 12 Kakara Warehouse along Hadeja Road in Kano, the Programme Director of the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGi), Barrister Ismaeel Ahmad, disclosed that about 3,524 conversion kits are currently in stock.
According to him, the kits include cylinders of 30, 65, and 75 litres capacity and are ready for distribution to approved centres across the state.
He explained that the centres are responsible for converting vehicles and tricycles from petrol to CNG, a move expected to significantly reduce transportation costs for both drivers and passengers.
Ahmad added that the 41 centres are already receiving equipment from the warehouse to accelerate the conversion process and expand access to the programme.
Some of the centres include Trade Source Integrated Concept, PKM Global Resource Ltd, Drive Green, Safe Auto Gas Ltd, Dazle Integrated Service, Go CNG Now Ltd, S J Resource Limited, Arus CNG Conversion Center, Fonnd Motor Manufacturing, Enormous International Center, Danfyrt Autos Ltd, Afriks Ltd, AMK Integrated, ABG Oil & Gas, Green Africa Solutions, Amani Automobile Ltd, Ahad Projects Ltd, Pro-Prestige Ltd, and Nuts and Bolt, among others.

The PCNGi Director reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding the initiative nationwide, noting that it would help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices while promoting the use of cleaner energy.
He further stated that the growing number of centres in Kano reflects strong private sector participation and increasing public acceptance of the programme.
Stakeholders in the transportation sector have commended the initiative, describing it as timely, particularly in reducing costs and improving the standard of living.
The expansion is also expected to boost commercial activities by lowering the cost of transporting goods and passengers, while supporting small businesses and enhancing the overall economy of Kano State.
