The Economic Community of West African States has launched a $604,576 emergency assistance project to support victims of the 2025 floods and landslides in Guinea.
A delegation from the ECOWAS Commission is currently in Conakry on a five-day mission to assess the impact of its 2024 flood response and formally introduce the new humanitarian intervention.
The mission is being carried out on behalf of the ECOWAS Commission President, Omar Alieu Touré, and the Commissioner for Social Affairs, Fatou Sow Sarr.
During the launch, the delegation reaffirmed ECOWAS’ commitment to assisting member states during crises, stating that the initiative reflects its continued solidarity with Guinea and readiness to address rising humanitarian challenges in the region.
A key moment at the event was the symbolic presentation of a $604,576 cheque to the Guinean government, represented by Mohammed Camara, Secretary General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.
Camara welcomed the support, describing it as timely and essential for easing the hardships faced by affected communities and boosting ongoing recovery efforts.
The intervention forms part of ECOWAS’ broader strategy to strengthen regional cooperation and ensure swift humanitarian response to disasters across member states.
