The project will be implemented in Birnin Kudu, Gumel, Kafin Hausa, Kiyawa, Kirikasamma, Jahun, Malam Madori, Roni, Taura and Sule Tankarkar Local Government Areas.
According to the council, the initiative is aimed at consolidating the gains of an extensive training programme undertaken by 82 youths from across the state in modern soilless farming techniques at the Soilless Farm Lab in Abeokuta.
The greenhouse facilities are expected to provide practical platforms for the trained youths to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme, particularly in controlled-environment agriculture and high-value crop production.
The council noted that the project would support year-round agricultural production, enhance food security and promote agribusiness entrepreneurship among young people in the state.
It added that the initiative would also create sustainable income-generating opportunities and improve the living standards of beneficiaries through access to modern farming technologies and practical agricultural skills.
The greenhouse project forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture, increase productivity and create employment opportunities for youths across Jigawa State.
