NOG 2026: NNPC Signs Six Gas Deals to Boost Industry, Energy Security

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has signed six major gas agreements with key industry partners, in a move aimed at driving industrial growth and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.

The agreements were signed during the 25th NOG Energy Week in Abuja and include deals with Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL), UTM Floating LNG, Chevron Nigeria Limited, AGPC, and NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL).

NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bayo Bashir Ojulari, said the deals are central to the Federal Government’s gas-based industrialisation agenda.

“Gas is critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth. These agreements are not just contracts, but steps toward economic transformation,” Ojulari said.

A key highlight is the partnership with ASCL, which focuses on reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and boosting local production of materials for oil and gas infrastructure. A 20-year gas supply agreement will also provide feedstock for power generation at the steel plant.

NNPC and its partner, Seplat Energy, also signed a 15-year gas supply deal with UTM FLNG to support a floating liquefied natural gas project. The project is expected to receive 200 million cubic feet of gas per day and reach final investment decision by late 2026.

Additionally, new network entry agreements with major gas producers are expected to inject up to 800 million cubic feet of gas daily into Nigeria’s domestic network, improving supply to power plants and industries.

The agreements are expected to expand gas utilisation, improve energy access, and support industrial activities across the country.

The signing was witnessed by top government officials, including the Ministers of Petroleum (Gas and Oil), as well as regulators in the energy sector.

The event forms part of activities at this year’s NOG Energy Week, themed “Advancing Energy Ambitions for Competitive & Resilient Economies.”
