The Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Initiative Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to establish a Ministry of Livestock to support the federal government’s vision of positioning Nigeria as a hub for livestock production.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the governor’s office in Osogbo, the state capital, Jega emphasized the importance of creating a dedicated ministry or agency to implement the federal government’s livestock reforms.

A statement issued by Kolapo Alimi, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, quoted Jega as recommending that the proposed ministry or agency be backed by appropriate legislation through the State House of Assembly.
“I appeal to Governor Ademola Adeleke to set up a Ministry of Livestock or a similar agency in Osun State to help actualize the federal government’s vision of ensuring abundant livestock production across the country. This initiative should be supported by enabling legislation from the State House of Assembly,” Jega stated.
He further called on the governor to involve key stakeholders in the livestock sector and raise public awareness about the critical importance of livestock reform for national development.
In his response, Governor Adeleke expressed his administration’s full support for President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector. He described the livestock reform initiative as a potential milestone for the country.
“I warmly welcome your team to Osun, the State of the Living Spring, and I assure you that my administration is fully committed to this federal initiative aimed at boosting food production. We will leave no stone unturned in adopting this vision, which aligns with our goal of improving food security and the livelihood of Nigerians,” Governor Adeleke said.
The governor also announced plans to establish a committee comprising agricultural experts to design a comprehensive framework for livestock reform in the state.
“Very soon, I will set up a committee of experts in agriculture to develop an effective strategy for reforming the livestock sector in Osun State,” Governor Adeleke concluded.
