Group urges farmers to avoid misuse of funds in Plateau’s agricultural initiative

The Plateau Patriotic Front (PPF) has called on farmers in Plateau State to make responsible use of the state government’s agricultural support initiatives, including the newly launched 250,000-dollar fund aimed at boosting agricultural activities across 10 communities.

The call was made by the National Coordinator of PPF, Mr. Mani Imman, who urged the farmers to avoid diverting the funds for purposes other than improving their farming operations.

Speaking from Abuja, Imman stressed that the initiative was meant to combat poverty and boost food production in the state, not for personal indulgences.

“The funds provided to these communities are meant to empower them, create wealth, and reduce poverty,” Imman said.

“It’s disheartening to think that some might misuse these gains for personal reasons, such as marrying new spouses, rather than using them for their intended purpose of enhancing agricultural productivity.”

Imman’s comments followed the recent inauguration of 20 tractors by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, alongside the disbursement of 250,000 dollars to support agriculture in Plateau.

These funds are allocated to 10 communities, including Guratop, Kerang, Zamko, Ampang West, Dinting, Jimin, Kaler, Plateau Club/Bingham, Pishe, Yashi, and Wereh.

“We are thrilled with the Plateau Government’s efforts in the agricultural sector,” Imman stated.

“Each step taken inches the state towards self-sufficiency in food production. The coming of these 20 tractors will ease the burden of farmers and encourage young people to engage in agriculture.”

Imman commended the Plateau State government for its partnership with the World Bank through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL), noting that the initiative would play a crucial role in boosting sustainable food production in the state.

“Unlike the past, where phantom tractors were promised and never delivered, these tractors are real, and we have already trained people to operate them,” Imman added. “This is a great step forward for the state’s agricultural sector.”

The PPF coordinator further urged farmers and communities to make the most of the 25,000-dollar loan given to each of the benefitting communities to further empower them economically.

“We call on these communities to make proper use of the funds to create wealth, reduce unemployment, and support their farming activities,” Imman concluded.
