He emphasized major advancements in climate governance, waste management, circular economy initiatives, erosion control, afforestation, and efforts to strengthen subnational climate finance readiness.

Dr. Hashim noted that Kano has introduced strong institutional reforms that are significantly improving its national climate rankings. These reforms, he said, are translating into tangible results—enhancing resilience, reducing environmental vulnerability, and empowering communities across the state.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to forging deeper collaborations with partners, investors, development organizations, and NGOs to scale up ongoing interventions and co-develop new solutions that will ensure a greener, safer, and climate-resilient Kano.
As part of the day’s engagements, the Ministry convened a panel discussion titled “Digital Governance and Youth Innovation in Rewiring Climate Future.”
The session brought together representatives from the Kano State Government, the private sector, civil society organizations, and the Federal Ministry of Environment. Discussions focused on the pivotal role of young people and digital systems in accelerating climate leadership and expanding the state’s adaptive capacity.
Panelists shared practical, forward-looking strategies through which institutions, communities, and individual citizens can contribute to shaping a sustainable Kano—one that safeguards the wellbeing of present and future generations.
Dr. Hashim reiterated that Kano State remains firmly dedicated to championing climate solutions that inspire confidence, unlock opportunities, and consolidate its position as a leading hub for sustainable development in Nigeria and the wider Sahel region.
