    ACReSAL partners Kano Agric Ministry to address Climate challenges

    The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) has expressed readiness to partner with the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture in an effort to ensure agricultural sustainability amid growing climate change challenges.

    Kano ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, stated this when he paid a visit to the ministry.

    Hashim said the ACReSAL project is a multi-sectoral and multi-institutional scheme, covering the Environment, Agriculture, and Water.

    This was contained in a statement signed by ACReSAL Project Communications Officer, Maryam Abdulqadir, on Friday.

    According to the statement it is designed by the Federal Government to combat desertification, restore degraded lands, and special ecosystems for agriculture and biodiversity conservation.

    “We are a World Bank-sponsored project that aims to increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in northern Nigeria and strengthen the country’s long-term enabling environment for integrated climate-resilient landscape management,” the statement said.

    The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources,  Alhaji Danjuma Mahmud, appreciated the visit, acknowledging its importance at a period climate change is impacting on almost all facets of lives.

    Represented by the Permanent Secretary Alhaji Salisu D. Tahir, the Commissioner said, “This visit comes at a crucial time, especially as the agricultural sector grapples with adverse effects of climate change. We welcome this initiative and assure our full support for the success of ACReSAL Component B.”

    “The Ministry is working on numerous interventions aimed at boosting agriculture development, aligning with ACReSAL objectives. We are committed to facilitating and complementing this project to enhance agricultural resilience in our region,” he added

    Alhaji Salisu D. Tahir assured of the ministry’s support to facilitate the success of ACReSAL Component B, aligning it with the ministry’s existing initiatives.
