– Urges government to distribute food to people
A renowned Islamic cleric, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar has called on Nigerian youths to withdraw from the protest they are about to embark on, saying it is not the solution to the hunger and food crisis facing the country.
The cleric made the call on Friday while delivering a Jumaat sermon at the Al-furqan mosque in Alue Avenue, Nasarawa GRA, Kano state.

AgroClimateNews reports that some youths across the country are mobilizing their counterparts to join a protest, which is slated to be held from 1st to 10th August 2024.
However, the cleric said although there is serious hardship resulting in hunger and food scarcity in the nation, the protest is not a solution, calling on the youth to avoid it.
While urging the government at all levels to support the masses with food, Dr Bashir advocated for adequate farming and investment in agriculture to address the challenges. He also urged the government to allow for the importation of foodstuffs to ease the cost of living among the masses.
“The decision to embark on a protest is not wise, and it will not solve our problems. I therefore urge our youth to refrain from any kind of protest. We should all learn a lesson from several countries that went into protest and it didn’t end well for them. Places like Sudan and Kenya are good examples.
“What we need now is for the government to support the masses with palliatives and also fulfil its promise of allowing for the importation of foodstuffs. This will help in addressing the challenges,” the cleric said.
Dr. Bashir also prays for peace and stability in the country, seeking God’s intervention for the nation to attain food security.
