    NEMA partners UNICEF, Jigawa Gov’t on solid waste management, flood preparedness

    The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with UNICEF, and Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) has organized a stakeholders workshop on Solid Waste Management and Flood Preparedness in Dutse, Jigawa state.

    The meeting which focused on solid waste management and flood preparedness, gathered key stakeholders from various sectors to address critical environmental and public safety issues.

    Speking at the event, Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar said the workshop is aimed to raise awareness on the significant impacts of improper solid waste management and the correlation with increased flood risks, as well as exchange successful strategies and innovative solutions for managing solid waste effectively and sustainably.

    The DG NEMA who was represented by the Territorial Coordinator, Dr. Nuraddeen Abdallah expresses concern and solicit for enhance cooperation among government bodies, non-governmental organizations, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to develop a cohesive and effective approach to managing waste and mitigating flood risks.

    “The stakeholders meeting served as a platform to build a unified strategy for tackling the challenges of solid waste management and flood preparedness in Jigawa State.

    “This gathering represents a significant step towards demonstrating a commitment to proactive and sustainable solutions for managing waste and preparing for floods in Jigawa State,” he said.
