As the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) enters second week, the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, has vowed to restore one million degraded land in Nigeria by 2028.
Agro Climate News reports that the COP29 is currently taking place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, where world leaders are gathered to prosper solutions to climate change.

In a statement publish on its social media handles, ACReSAL said the Minister of Federal Ministry of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, presented the project at an event in the sideline of the COP29.
With a theme “Showcasing Sustainable Climate Resilient Practices and the Use of GIS for Integrated Catchment Management Approach,” the project said it aims to improve food security, reduce poverty and enhance resilience to climate change, among other needs across Nigeria.
“This groundbreaking initiative focuses on watershed management, land remediation, restoration, and building community resilience across 19 northern states and the FCT.

“Key goals include: Restoring 1 million hectares of degraded land by 2028, improving food security through climate-smart agriculture, reducing poverty in local communities, enhancing resilience to climate change
“The ACReSAL Project underscores Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action, empowering communities while protecting the environment,” it stated.
